HELGA KELLY
Acrylics
Helga Kelly has been painting for over 30 years.
Originally using oil paints, but for the last 10 year she has been painting mainly in acrylics. Occasionally,
water colours and mixed media. Her inspiration comes from nature. Favouring most of her work
“en plein air”, finishing the work at her home studio. Taking photographs of the scenes to jolt her memory when she is
finishing the painting. Helga’s work is impressionist in style with focus on colour. Sometimes painting more abstract when the
subject requires. Helga took lessons with a number of teachers. Gary Foye was an inspiration as an art teacher, “opening her eyes to
more and different possibilities in art practice.” Amongst the prizes and awards received over the years,
Helga has accomplished 20 “First Prize”, 40 “Highly Commended” and over 30 “commended”.

Sat 18 June – Colina Grant, Pastels "Colours in the Landscape"
Up until about 10 years ago Colina Grant was still teaching and doing demo's, so it's with some trepiedition that
she will return to do another for her favourite society!
Experienced with all mediums, it is pastel which she feels most 'at home' with and the one she will use for today's demo.
Colina began her career as an artist at the age of 15 at the National Art School, working in a commercial art studio during the holidays and continued doing this for many years even after family arrived, only then she was doing free-lance work and studying in the evenings. Where most women found this time of raising a young family the time they would give art away, for her it was the most productive having the most inspiring of all her well-known Australian teachers. It was around this time that she began enering competitions and spurred on by success, began to self-teach pastels. The Combined Art Societies of Sydney awarded her Artist of the Year for the10th time in 2013, and along the years has been lucky enough to have been recognised with many other awards.
Undecided at the moment of writing exactly what subject to choose, it will be based upon perspective with the use of colour in the landscape....being able to give distance and three dimension to your work.
